Make Me Smile

Album covers used to be inspirational to impressionable teenagers. I know I certainly spent a good deal of time studying these LP covers, but back then, they were also impressively large pieces of art - not tiny cd jewel cases or iPod art. The Who's Quadrophenia album was a whole book filled with gritty pictures. There was an inherent  linked sense between the two, between the visual and the albums sound that added to the experience immensely. Downloads excise that part of the music experience. Yes, you can download the album art, but can you dream, wonder or be fully inspired by art that is so small and fleetingly seen? Listening to an album while studying the cover, who does that anymore?
